Ambassador’s refer-a-friend program enables companies to create, manage and effectively monitor their customer referral campaigns. A high degree of automation and customization ensures smooth and effortless referral marketing.

Founded in the year 2010 by Jeff Epstein, Ambassador was originally named as Zferral. Headquartered in Birmingham, Michigan, Ambassador helps companies set up word-of-mouth marketing campaigns that reward existing customers (called brand Ambassadors) for referring the company’s products to their friends and family.

The Manage Section

In order to manage the different components of a referral system, Ambassador provides its users an intuitive and well-organized Manage section. This section helps you manage your ambassadors, ambassador groups, commissions and payouts. You can use the tabs, filters and tables provided in this section to import and deactivate ambassadors, as well as segment them into groups based on the type of campaign you’re running. This section also lets you manage rewards and discount values as well as choose a commission structure to incentivize your ambassadors. Payouts are also easily managed with options to make payments automatically via Dwolla or PayPal.

Campaign Builder

Ambassador’s Campaign Builder lets you build a referral marketing campaign based on events and rewards. Every referred sale, for instance, is classified as an event with a corresponding reward. Users can create multiple campaigns effortlessly and track each one to measure the success of their referral system. Widgets, plenty of readily available integrations including payment gateways integration. Intuitive user interface with sub domain or custom domain option.


Costly compared to other platforms. Restrictions on number of Ambassadors for higher plans too. Branded URLs and custom branding only with enterprise level plans.


Recommended considering all the features. Perfect for enterprise customers. Not ideal for small business customers due to restrictions on their features.
